Introducing tampliners!
How far we’ve come in 80 years! A computer that would’ve filled an entire building in the 1930s now slips into our pocket and we casually call it a phone. Rather than posting a letter to arrive weeks or months later, we can send a message within seconds, from tweeting our celebrity heroes to texting family on the other side of the world. We can pop pills to help us sleep, stop us getting pregnant and fine-tune our vitamin intake. Life has never been more convenient. And yet there’s one invention that the average woman will use about 11,000 times in her life, but that’s barely changed since the 1930s. Let’s talk about the tampon.
“There has been little innovation or big thinking around periods in 80 years – since the tampon was invented.”
—The Guardian
It’s true that the modern tampon is available in a range of absorbencies and with the option of an applicator. But, as The Guardian reported, “there has been little innovation or big thinking around periods in 80 years – since the tampon was invented”. “So what?” you might reply. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Well we were wondering about this, so we decided to ask women if they really were satisfied with their tampons. Nearly a third said that actually, they weren’t. When questioned further, many women admitted that they don’t really trust their tampons – even those who had previously said they were satisfied. In fact 70% of all the women we spoke to wear an extra liner just in case. So, in a world where brands fall over themselves to take the worry and inconvenience out of our lives, why should we have to shrug and think “it’ll do” about our period products?
No compromise
At Callaly we don’t think that having periods means you should have to compromise. It’s right that consumers demand the highest standards of the products we buy, from the food we eat to the creams we put on our skin. And this should extend to any other products that we put near or inside our bodies. We invented the tampliner to solve the biggest problems with the traditional tampon-pantyliner combination so many of us use. The tampliner gives you the extra protection of a liner but without the bulk, rustle or inconvenience of a separate pad. It has the mess-free benefits of an applicator tampon but without the extra rubbish to throw away at the end. In fact, our applicator actually wraps the tampon on its way out. Our tampliners are sterilised and made from high-quality ingredients, including organic cotton that won’t shed inside you. And instead of sending you out to search your local supermarket for them, we’ll just send a boxful to your door whenever you need them, along with all the organic cotton tampons, pads and liners you might want to cover the rest of your period.
The reason we’ve invented this new product isn’t so that we can knock the competition off the top spot or even for the love of good product design. We invented it because we saw that people were being let down by their femcare and we wanted to make something better. Thank goodness for computers that fit in your pocket and three cheers for timed-release vitamin B complex tablets. Now isn’t it time we made a period product that works?
